My solo trip to Copenhagen

I recently returned from a solo trip to Copenhagen, Denmark, where I attended a seminar by Dr. Bradly Nelson, a leading expert on the mind/body connection.

I’d never been to Denmark, traveled abroad by myself, flown that far for a one-day event, or done anything that “crazy” before. I was excited, nervous, and a little bit terrified.

The trip was AMAZING 💖.

Copenhagen was one of the most charming and walkable cities I’d ever visited and was filled with some of the friendliest and nicest people from all over the world.

The conference was incredible! I didn’t know if it would be 1,000 people or 100. Turns out it was around 30. It was such an intimate setting to learn, grow, meet new people, and access “Dr Brad” and his amazing wife.

I learned so much about myself and how far I’ve come through coaching.

Here are some examples:

Focusing on the trip and not T1D
😫 I used to think about diabetes ALL the time
🙌🏻 Reflecting on the trip, it hit me how little I thought about my T1D (minus necessary T1D maintenance). Instead, I was able to enjoy the sites and sounds of the city.

Asking for help
😫 I used to feel guilty ALL the time. Feelings that stopped me from ever asking for help.
🙌🏻 With my terrible sense of direction (no amount of coaching can solve this one!), I got lost a LOT. I would simply stop and ask for help. Each person was nicer than the next and happy to help.

Feeling calm
😫 In any stressful situation, I often felt panic. Get locked out? Can’t find my way? Panic!
🙌🏻 When I first arrived, I couldn’t find my hotel. I took the metro and was having trouble with my phone, which meant no GPS. I’m wandering the streets with my bags, no GPS, and no idea where my hotel was. And I’m feeling totally calm. My thoughts that created this calm? “This is all part of this fun adventure. I’m in no rush and have nowhere to be. I’m in no danger”.

Taking a risk!
😫 I rarely took risks (if any). Take a risk? No way!
🙌🏻 I took on the adventure on this trip. Enough said!

Do any of the above resonate? Need help thinking about your T1D less? Need help to create more calm in your life? Schedule a consult with me and let’s chat!
