How EFT Tapping Helped Me Overcome My Fear of Public Speaking

For a long time, I’ve had a fear of public speaking. Even the thought of standing on stage produces butterflies in my stomach.

When I was scheduled to appear on my coach’s podcast to discuss tools for better sleep, I decided to work on my fear with another EFT practitioner to prepare (episode out in May!).

During the session, we tapped on the various points while talking about my fear of public speaking. As we did that, a specific memory came up. In 2001, I was speaking at a JDRF T1D gala and completely blanked out in front of a room of about 300 people. I panicked. My brain had tagged that moment as “public speaking is not safe.” Bringing that memory to mind while tapping (and sending calming signals to my nervous system) helped my brain realize that public speaking is actually safe now.

The real test came the day before the scheduled podcast.I noticed something surprising. *I felt unusually calm.

Then, for scheduling reasons, we decided to record a day earlier than planned. Normally, that kind of change would have sent me into a spiral.

Instead, I felt calm and ready.

I was present, relaxed, and focused on the conversation. And the most amazing thing happened: I had fun!

That’s one of the things tapping can do.  It helps you stop reacting to old triggers by teaching the mind and body that those situations are now safe. That doesn’t mean I’ll never feel nervous about public speaking again. But it showed me that my body no longer reacts the same way it used to.

In my next blog, I’ll share the science behind tapping and what research says about how and why it works. Check out the post before – How people feel after an EFT session
